Washington Union Station (WUS) is a unique rail facility in that it is both a terminal and a station. Trains originate and terminate at upper level platforms and north-south trains pass through the station via an underground tunnel. A lower level basement, running underneath the tunnel, is accessible via a service passage from either the east or west loading dock areas. This area is effectively known as the subbasement. Leuterio Thomas was tasked to take part in the terminal improvements and provided the structural services needed in the project.
