Project Details

The renovation expanded the EOC’s capacity from 15 to 45 personnel. To create the additional occupied space, a portion of the existing data center was separated and converted for staff use.

The new operations center required independent mechanical, fire-protection, and smoke-control zones while remaining fully integrated with the surrounding facility. The design also needed to support advanced audiovisual systems and provide visitors with a clear view of the Census Bureau’s technology and operational capabilities.

project scope

LT provided turnkey design-build services, coordinating the architectural design, building systems, technology, construction planning, and implementation.

The project maximized the available space while using new floor, wall, and ceiling finishes to strengthen the EOC’s visual identity. Lighting, audiovisual technology, and smart-glass systems were integrated to support daily operations, presentations, and controlled visitor access.

our solutions

The project was completed on a fast-track schedule, with construction taking place seven days a week. Because the work occurred within an active building, each construction activity followed clearly defined procedures to protect ongoing operations and coordinate the new mechanical, fire, and smoke separations.

Lighting became a central architectural and operational feature of the space. Integrated controls allow EOC management to adjust illumination based on where information is displayed and the type of activity taking place.

Smart-glass technology creates a controlled transition between the conference room and the operations center, allowing visitors to observe the EOC when appropriate while maintaining privacy and operational security when needed.

By bringing building controls, data systems, audiovisual technology, lighting, and interior design into one coordinated solution, LT created a modern enterprise facility that visibly reflects the Census Bureau’s ability to manage complex information systems. The project was completed on time and within budget.
