In response to Executive Branch directives issued in 2010, federal agencies were tasked with reducing their real estate footprint through alternative workplace models and telecommuting. LT supported the Department of Education in translating these mandates into a practical, people-focused workplace strategy. The designs incorporated flexible, reservable workstations, often referred to as hotelling, supported by adaptable meeting rooms equipped with video conferencing to strengthen communication and coordination across the department.
LT’s designs emphasized open, naturally lit spaces furnished with ergonomic workstations that met ADA requirements. The Mobility Labs improved space utilization while offering staff a comfortable and adaptable work environment. Together, these improvements supported operational efficiency, flexibility, and collaboration, while aligning the department’s workplace with evolving federal standards and workforce needs.
