Project Details

The original school featured single-pane steel windows, steel storefront systems, and brick exterior walls. After decades of use, the windows provided limited thermal performance and contributed to uncomfortable classroom conditions.

Inside the school, the existing corridor doors were not fire rated. The project addressed these safety and building-envelope deficiencies while preserving the school’s existing structure and overall character.

project scope

LT provided full design services for Prince George’s County Public Schools, including cost estimating, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.

The work included replacing the existing windows with insulated double-pane casement and storefront systems, installing new exterior storefront doors, cleaning and repainting the building façades, and replacing the corridor doors with fire-rated assemblies.

our solutions

Rather than pursue a major exterior renovation, LT used targeted window, door, and finish upgrades to improve the school’s appearance and performance. Modern insulated glazing increased the thermal efficiency of the classrooms while creating a more contemporary exterior.

Cleaning and repainting refreshed the existing façades and extended the life of the exterior materials. New storefront doors improved the building envelope at entrances, while fire-rated corridor doors strengthened fire separation and occupant safety throughout the school.

Together, these focused improvements created a safer, more comfortable, and more energy-efficient learning environment while preserving the existing 1955 building.
