Leuterio Thomas provided full architectural and engineering services for Prince George’s County Public Schools, including design, cost estimating, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
The work included replacing the existing windows and exterior storefront doors, installing fire-rated corridor doors, and cleaning and recoating the exposed steel supporting the precast exterior panels. LT also developed new casement, storefront, and curtain wall window systems suited to the different conditions across the building.
Rather than undertake a major exterior reconstruction, LT used the window replacement to improve the school’s appearance and performance within the existing building framework. Modern insulated double-pane systems replaced the original single-pane windows, improving classroom comfort and thermal efficiency while giving the 1960s façade a more contemporary appearance.
Cleaning and recoating the exposed structural steel removed existing corrosion and provided renewed protection from weather exposure. New exterior storefront doors further improved the building envelope, while fire-rated corridor doors strengthened fire separation and occupant safety throughout the school.
Together, these targeted improvements extended the useful life of the existing building and delivered meaningful upgrades to its safety, durability, energy performance, and appearance.
