Project Details

Leuterio Thomas (LT) provided architectural services for upgrades to the Thurgood Marshall Prince George’s County Public School, a 120,942-square-foot facility originally constructed in 1962. The project focused on improving life safety, building performance, and the exterior appearance of the school while working within the constraints of the existing structure.

project scope

LT led the design effort to address several critical building deficiencies. The scope included the installation of fire-rated corridor doors, replacement of all existing single-pane aluminum windows with modern insulated systems, cleaning and recoating of corroding exterior steel, and replacement of all exterior storefront doors. The existing precast panels, which framed the windows and were supported by exposed steel columns and beams, required careful coordination to protect the structure and extend its service life.

our solutions

The new casement, storefront, and curtainwall window systems modernized the building’s appearance without the need for major renovation. These upgrades improved thermal efficiency in classrooms, protected exterior steel from ongoing corrosion, and significantly enhanced life safety through proper fire separation in corridors. LT provided full design, cost estimating, permitting, bidding, and construction administration services, supporting Prince George’s County Public Schools from concept through completion.
