Project Details

Located one block from the White House, Leuterio Thomas (LT) supported a Design-Build renovation of portions of the third floor at the Department of Veterans Affairs headquarters. The project was part of a broader effort to meet a Presidential mandate calling for more efficient and flexible use of federal workplace space.

project scope

LT worked in close coordination with the VA and the General Services Administration to develop an alternative workplace strategy that shifted traditional office layouts toward a more open, collaborative environment. The design approach focused on flexibility and adaptability, supporting evolving work styles and the needs of a younger workforce. A key challenge was integrating these new workplace hubs within the constraints of the existing floor plates while ensuring appropriate access to natural light, power, and data throughout the space.

our solutions

The renovated areas introduced a series of open work zones and breakout spaces of varying sizes, all designed to support collaboration and video conferencing. These spaces enhanced connectivity between VA regions and improved engagement with Veterans across the country. The project contributed to an ongoing, phased renovation effort, establishing a scalable model for future workplace modernization initiatives within the agency.
