Project Details

The security approach follows the GSA Security Design Guide and applicable Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria, including UFC 4-020-01 and UFC 4-010-01. These standards provide a framework for evaluating potential threats and establishing appropriate antiterrorism measures based on the facility’s mission and site conditions.

The analysis considered threats from vehicle-borne and placed explosives, as well as risks associated with water access, mail delivery, and loading dock operations.

project scope

The planning effort addressed campus layout, building placement, parking, vehicle circulation, entry control, perimeter security, and access to service areas. Required standoff distances were evaluated between occupied buildings and parking areas, site boundaries, access-control facilities, and other potential threat locations.

The security strategy also considered how site planning measures would work with appropriate building hardening to achieve the required level of protection.

our solutions

Buildings were clustered into a secure compound, concentrating occupied facilities within a protected central area. Parking and vehicle circulation were kept toward the perimeter, increasing the distance between vehicles and buildings while reducing traffic within the pedestrian core.

A perimeter fence and controlled entry points help protect the campus from unauthorized vehicle and pedestrian access. Loading docks, mail-handling areas, and portions of the property exposed to waterborne access received additional consideration based on their specific vulnerabilities.

This approach uses the site itself as part of the security system. The resulting plan strengthens protection through distance and controlled circulation while creating a more cohesive campus with pedestrian-friendly green space and environmental benefits.
