Walker Consultants brought Leuterio Thomas on board as Architect of Record to support the design, documentation, and construction of the new parking facility.
LT’s architectural scope included the selection of interior and exterior finishes, design of the building envelope and exposed finish systems, and development of the primary and secondary circulation cores. The team also designed the connection to the below-grade concourse, creating a clear and welcoming route from the garage into the hospital.
LT worked closely with the client, project stakeholders, end users, and community members throughout the design process. Communicating the design and incorporating feedback gave the team a better understanding of how the new structure would affect both hospital users and the surrounding community.
The precast exterior was developed to give the large parking structure an architectural identity that relates to the hospital campus and its neighborhood context. Inside, coordinated circulation cores and the below-grade concourse connection help visitors navigate intuitively from their vehicles to the medical center.
The completed garage provides essential parking for the hospital while contributing to the larger development of the medical campus and generating an important source of revenue for Prince George’s County.
