Project Details

The Mobility Labs were developed in response to federal directives encouraging agencies to use space more efficiently through telework and alternative workplace strategies. Rather than assigning every employee a permanent workstation, the Department implemented a hoteling model that allows staff to reserve workspace in advance based on their schedules and needs.

The labs combine reservable workstations with adaptable meeting and support spaces. Video-conferencing capabilities help employees communicate and collaborate with colleagues working elsewhere.

project scope

LT provided architectural design and workplace-planning services for the Mobility Labs. The team developed layouts that balanced efficient space use with employee comfort, accessibility, natural light, and the flexibility to support different work styles.

LT also incorporated ergonomic workstations and accessible layouts meeting ADA requirements, along with adaptable rooms for meetings, focused work, and virtual collaboration.

our solutions

The design replaced the traditional one-person, one-desk model with a shared workplace that could respond to changing daily occupancy. Open layouts and access to natural light created a more welcoming environment, while reservable workstations allowed the Department to support its staff with less dedicated office space.

Adaptable rooms and integrated video-conferencing technology extended the value of the labs beyond individual work. Employees could move between focused tasks, in-person meetings, and remote collaboration within the same environment, helping the Department use its facilities more efficiently while maintaining communication across its workforce.
